Young Reporter Launches for the 10th Year in Gumley

and Congratulations to all Student Journalists.

Another Successful Group of Gumley Correspondents. Journalist Diana Jarvis from Newsquest’s ‘This is local London’, awarded students across years 10 – The Sixth, their ‘certificate of recognition’, signed by the Editor.

This accolade represents each student’s achievement in writing a total of 8 community related articles over the course of 7 months as well as fulfilling all the criteria of the scheme.

Every year, numerous students are quick to sign up to be part of this unique initiative that provides our young people with critical journalism experience.

These budding reporters independently have to: identify news stories, investigate sources, conduct interviews, hone their photographic skills and manage their deadlines through to uploading their articles.

This year’s launch, which Diana Jarvis also presented to our student year groups, highlighted the unique employability skills they can gain in addition to seeing their work published each month on the newspaper’s website.

Young Reporter also contributes to the Duke of Edinburgh Award skills, another added advantage.

Congratulations to all of our students on their accomplishments and commitment.
