Welcome to the Sixth Form

The Sixth Form experience is different from anything you have
known so far. It offers you greater freedom and opportunity, but along with this comes more responsibility. It is a time for you to take control, a time when you will make important decisions, and a time in which you will grow intellectually and personally.

It is the most challenging work you will have undertaken so far; however everything is in place at the Sixth Form to help you thrive and meet that challenge. Through our extensive choice of courses, including A Level and BTEC courses, you can delve deeper into your academic passions, while forming more mature relationships with teachers who will support you every step of the way. Through our university, career, enrichment and scholars’ pathways, you will benefit from a range of inspirational talks, conferences, workshops, trips, events, summer programmes and work placements, helping you to develop a broad portfolio of attitudes, skills and knowledge to ensure you are well placed to succeed in a competitive world.

Our vision for The Sixth  is to deliver a “world class” level of education whilst maintaining the students’ best interests at our core. Life and Education at our Gumley Sixth Form is enjoyable and stimulating, it provides the best  opportunities for students to gain the qualifications, life skills and attitudes which will enable them to shape their futures positively and will equip them to be valued and make a positive contribution to our society and be a valuable members of a global community.

As well as a Sixth Form Centre, with access to a common room, supervised study rooms, iPads and a fully resourced library, we have an expansive sixth form team which boasts specialist tailored roles that further support students in achieving their future ambitions – including a Careers and UCAS Officer.

Life at The Sixth is not just about working hard. We promise an experience which also offers plenty of laughter, fun and friendship. You can join the Student Leadership Team, become a member of a sports team, hone your creative talents, attend social events and take part in charity fundraising. We look forward to welcoming you into The Sixth at Gumley House community. Please do not hesitate to discuss The Sixth experience with me or any member of our team.
Welcome from Sixth Form Leadership Team

The Sixth at Gumley is unique. It is your chance to follow your academic and personal interests, working with teachers who share your love and enthusiasm for specific subjects and who will support you every step of the way. You are treated like an adult and can enjoy greater independence.

We truly believe that the word ‘community’ epitomises all that we experience at Gumley. Throughout both the school and The Sixth, it is evident that staff and students all work cohesively to achieve success, not just in our studies but in peer mentoring, charity days, school productions and whole school events. Our Sixth Form Leadership Team all strive for a common goal, to create a positive learning environment for students at Gumley. We all work closely to ensure that we use our strengths to provide students with a voice that can be heard and acted upon.

This year we also want to involve our local community, taking the ‘community’ feel we have here out for others to see and experience. For example, we will be hosting a tea party for ex-Gumley Girls, FCJ sisters and residents from local care homes as part of our FCJ Bicentenary Year of Celebrations. We each have a different story to tell from our time at The Sixth, so why not come and visit us to find out more!
