Student Life
Life at The Sixth is different to that at school.
It has a pre-university style culture with extremely high expectations and challenges, but equally high rewards at the end.
There is freedom to pursue academic and personal interests, have more informal and rewarding relationships with teachers, make new friends and take on more responsibility.
Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre provides access to a common room, study rooms, Chromebooks and a fully resourced study centre; and encourages an atmosphere of self-reliance, curiosity and hard work.
It’s not all about building a CV. We also want students to find time to relax, to enjoy time keeping fit, to explore creative talents and to focus on their wellbeing. Life in The Sixth is busy, varied and rewarding, with charity fundraising, social events such as the Summer Ball, residential trips and feast days, as well as whole school productions and events to get involved in.
Our returning alumnae tell us how much they enjoyed and valued their sixth form years. Students make long-term friendships, gain invaluable life-skills, and create a host of happy memories to take away with them.
The Sixth is not just a school but a family and I felt the strong community atmosphere from the moment I started. Straight away members of staff are preparing you for the future and there are limitless opportunities provided to select from. Staff continuously guide you in building your unique character, help you to develop a passion for your chosen subjects, support you to stay on top of your studies and mould you into the individual who has an insight into the future. I’ve been so enriched at Gumley that I can confidently say that this was the right choice for me to achieve my dream of studying research at university.
