Careers Pathway

PROFESSIONAL Careers INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE

Designed to prepare students for a fulfilling professional life, our careers pathway allows the time, resources and experiences to explore professions fully, investigate qualifications, find work experience and to recognise and develop transferable skills.

Key to the success of our careers pathway is the expertise and energy of our dedicated Careers Department and the close partnerships we have fostered with business professionals, organisations and our successful alumni.

Application support

Those aspiring students are assisted with their internship or apprenticeship applications for post sixth form. In the past, students have successfully secured places at Jaguar Land Rover, Sky, PwC and the Ministry of Justice Civil Service.

With sights set on a career in medical law, Chantelle is grateful to Gumley for providing her with exceptional experiences to support her in achieving this ambition. From work experience in the Supreme Court to one-to-one contact with lawyers, the careers support at The Sixth is personalised to her goals and needs.

External speakers

We regularly invite representatives, including our alumni, from global organisations who share their stories and supply students with the latest market intelligence for the world of work. These include: BP, O2, Barclays Bank, BBC Radio, The Evening Standard, Marks and Spencer, GSK, Sky, Christies Auction House, Newsquest, The Mulberry Centre, the NHS and the Metropolitan Police.

Workshops

Students attend a series of workshops with the likes of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, White Hat apprenticeships and The Old Vic, where they gain an insight into different career sectors, network with key employers and develop core skills through practical activities.

I now have a better understanding of the qualities employers look for.

Events

We host and create a range of events such as our annual Careers Day and Step up to Careers, with the aim of raising students’ aspirations, increasing their motivation and encouraging them to open their minds to the endless possibilities and various roles available within different organisations.

Curriculum Extension Days, work experience and guidance from our Careers Advisor has shown me the path I need to follow in order to achieve my goals of attending Bath University to study Psychology. In the future I would like to go into psychological research and maybe even find a cure for dementia!
