Pathways to Success

Don't dream about success ... work for it!

We offer a choice of different pathways that cover a broad range of academic, creative and vocational subjects. Both pathways allow progression to competitive universities, apprenticeships, or employment. There is also the opportunity, with agreement by the Head of Sixth Form, to re-take GCSE Maths and English Language as well as studying community languages to A Level. Courses are always under review.

A Level Pathway 1: Studying 4 SUBJECTS

To qualify, students must achieve grades 8 and 9 in most subjects studied. This programme is designed for students with high academic achievements and requires full commitment, strong discipline and dedication to their studies.

A Level Pathway 2:  Studying 3 SUBJECTS

Students on this pathway study three A Levels and also have the opportunity of taking the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) if desired. Students need to meet the appropriate subject grade criteria for each subject.

A Level + BTEC Diploma Combination

With this creative pathway, students can choose to study a combination of qualifications; either 1 A Level subject alongside 2 BTEC/CTEC subjects, or 2 A Levels with a single BTEC/CTEC.

BTEC/CTEC Diploma Qualifications (3 year study)

This course supports students in developing essential life and employability skills while pursuing academic qualifications. Students will follow the BTEC/CTEC route exclusively.  In the first year, students focus on one Level 3 subject while resitting GCSE Maths and English if necessary. In the second year, students will take on two additional BTEC/CTEC Diploma courses. Students must meet the subject entry requirements which can be found in the course guide below.

Additional Factors:
If either English or Maths is below a GCSE grade 4, students will be required to re-sit these subjects in accordance with government guidelines.
