World Class School Award
Gumley House School FCJ has been awarded the World Class Schools Quality Mark (WCSQM) having successfully completed the accreditation process. We are now officially a World Class School.
WCSQM awards a quality mark to schools that offer the best education to young people in the UK. Unlike other national assessment bodies, it assesses the students and not the school, using a framework of skills and competencies young people need to flourish in an emerging global economy.
Find out more about the World Class award
To achieve the status of World Class, students have to demonstrate that they are truly World Class through their successful participation in the rigorous assessment process.
The Award Scheme focuses on building on existing good practice within the school to optimise teaching and learning, embed the philosophy that every student can perform highly and systematically build the cognitive competencies that research demonstrates lead to success.
The award reflects how we implement high performance and learning in the school whilst recognising the various attributes of our students, and their many successes. We believe that we have improved student progress, aspiration and achievement to such an extent that our standards rival those of the best schools internationally.
We are preparing young people for a world which is significantly different to that of twenty years ago. Young people need to perform in a diverse global economy which is typified by technological innovation, is highly competitive and where entrepreneurism is celebrated. World Class schools equip students with knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in a challenging international environment where those who succeed take risks and continually pursue improvement. World Class students are educated to be active and effective citizens who have qualifications which give them choices, and the competences to choose well. They have developed a level of emotional and intellectual literacy which enables them to navigate a potentially bewildering plethora of opportunities and achieve success and contentment for themselves.
A World Class student:
- is highly literate scientifically, mathematically, technologically and culturally.
- consistently out-performs students from similar contexts, and is committed to continually improving their performance.
- is an excellent learner, dedicated to life-long learning.
- is a compelling candidate in their field for higher education and/or employment, being globally aware , confident and prepared for life in an international environment.
Our development of student character and international outlook are high priorities for the school. For more information on the programme, please CLICK HERE
Eco Schools Green Flag Award
We have been re-accredited with this award in recognition of how our students are actively caring about environmental issues and have a strong desire to protect our planet. The Eco-Schools programme provides a seven-step framework that addressed issues such as climate change, biodiversity-loss, or plastic pollution whilst empowering young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond.
The prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award is given to schools that reflect ecological forward-thinking and promotes youth-led environmental education and action.
Student Needs awards
The school has two accredited Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists, who apply their professional knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to areas of need experienced by pupils. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.
Additionally, staff in our Learning Support Team are also trained as Advanced Drawing and Talking Practitioners. This expertise explores Jungian Theory of archetypes and patterns that arise in children’s drawings, and learn about development and movement along the Ego-Self Axis. In a group environment, young people can become more aware of their emotions and develop an understanding of how to process them.
