Success at The Sixth
WE ARE VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AS INDIVIDUALS. BEHIND EACH AND EVERY GRADE IS A PERSONAL STORY OF HARD WORK, COMMITMENT AND PERSEVERANCE. HERE ARE SOME NOTABLE SUCCESSES FROM A LEVEL RESULTS DAY 2020.
Eleanor, Former St Agatha's Catholic Primary School pupil
A keen historian, Eleanor looks up to many of the remarkable women throughout history; and her A level results demonstrate that she is truly a remarkable woman herself. Having achieved 2 A*s and an A in English Literature, History and Mathematics, Eleanor is ecstatic to accept her place at the University of Oxford to study History and Economics in September.
Since joining Gumley in Year 7, I have grown in confidence and acquired a passion for lifelong learning. Both the school and The Sixth are truly exceptional, especially the sense of community, devoted teachers and unrivalled support.
Tabitha, Former St Vincent’s Primary School pupil
Tabitha has ambitious plans for the future after achieving an outstanding 2 A*s, an A and a B in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. She is now looking forward to studying Mathematics at Durham University. Having joined Gumley in Year 7, she is grateful for all the enrichment opportunities that she has been provided to support her studies and develop her interests; from attending the MEP trip to China and undertaking the HSK Qualification to completing work experience at Cisco and studying maths at Eton Summer School.
The personalised experience you receive at The Sixth is second to none. Not only do they ensure you achieve academic success, they provide bespoke careers guidance, focus on your well-being and mental health and help you to become well-rounded individuals.
Godfred, Former Wellington Primary School pupil
Godfred is one step closer to achieving his dream of becoming a research scientist at GlaxoSmithKline after receiving a Distinction, Merit in his BTEC Applied Science and a B in his A Level Psychology. He is now heading to the University of Surrey to study Microbiology. He is grateful for the numerous opportunities provided to him on The Sixth’s careers and enrichment pathways, with his highlights having been gaining a place on the GlaxoSmithKline Insight Programme, being part of the Senior Leadership Team and teambuilding on Curriculum Extension Days.
The strong community atmosphere at The Sixth is so unique. The teachers are incredible. They will push you to do your absolute best, offering great advice and extra support and materials. I can confidently say that joining Gumley was the right choice for me.
Liann
Having secured a D* in BTEC Business and B in A Level Economics, Liann dreams of having a prosperous career at PwC where she has just been accepted onto their Flying Start degree programme at Reading University. She knows she will excel thanks to the opportunities she has received by The Sixth on the Careers Pathway. For example, The Take the Lead workshops helped Liann with her PwC application process, by applying the skills she acquired such as communication, presentation and problem solving to her assessment.
Having moved from Ghana, I settled into life at Gumley quickly thanks to the amazing community. I have appreciated the chance to work with and learn from so many amazing individuals with different backgrounds.
Christina, Former St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Hanwell pupil
Christina is thrilled to have gained an A*, 2 As and a B in Economics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Geography. She is going on to read Economics and Management at Bristol University, with an aspiration of a flourishing career in the business and finance sector. She is grateful to Gumley’s careers department for providing her with the experiences, resources and advice to explore the range of roles and industries available.
Gumley has helped me to become the person I am today. Staying on at The Sixth was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Matilde, Former St Mary Magdalen’s Catholic Primary School, Mortlake pupil
Having secured an impressive A* and 2 As in Spanish, Psychology and Media, Matilde is going on to read Film, Television and Digital Production at Royal Holloway University. She praises Gumley for their high expectations and encouragement and for the array of opportunities they provide outside her studies, allowing her to pursue her interests.
I would recommend The Sixth at Gumley because it is a small sixth form where you are known as an individual. The teachers and staff will always support you and help you to get to where you want to be.
Emer, Former Mount Carmel Primary School pupil – doesn’t want picture being used/not signed
Emer is delighted to be going on to read Drama and English Literature at Manchester University after achieving an A*, A, B in Drama, English and Photography. She believes she is ready for this next step thanks to the unique careers department and for the Sixth Form team encouraging her to complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); where she not only gained extensive knowledge about academic style writing and conducting research, but gained an A grade too!
The strong sense of community, supportive teachers and engaging lessons are some of the many things that I will miss about Gumley.
Alaleh, Former Malborough Primary School pupil
Alaleh is looking forward to studying Psychology at university, with ambitious plans to become a clinical psychologist. The experiences provided on The Sixth’s university pathway has developed the skills and qualities that will be invaluable to her in the future, including confidence and communication skills. She is thankful to the staff for their continuous support and reassurance in what was a very difficult time.
My advice to younger students is to always stay organised and be positive! There is always light at the end of the tunnel and you will be successful if you keep working hard.
Dominque, Former St James’ Catholic Primary School pupil
Dominique was delighted to achieve an A* and 2 Bs in Textiles, Psychology and Philosophy and Ethics. She is looking forward to attending Reading University to study primary education with an art specialism; and feels prepared for this next chapter thanks to the greater freedom and independence students receive at The Sixth.
As well as your academic studies, there are opportunities to take part in charity days, festivals and school performances. There is something for everyone at The Sixth!
