Wednesday 11 December 2024 Advent Concert and Nativity Day Last Wednesday evening, the Music Department hosted our Annual Advent Concert. We had an array of musicians and singers including soloists, duets, ensembles, band. It was a wonderful evening and a great way to start this advent season!

Thursday 5 December 2024 KS3 Borough Badminton KS3 Borough badminton tournament was a great success last month. All 3 Gumley teams topped their pool groups not losing a match, with Gumley B team competing in the final where they beat The Green School in some great games. A lovely display of sportsmanship and FairPlay! #LifeAtGumley

Friday 29 November 2024 A Trip to Berlin In October, Year 11 and Year 13 historians visited Berlin for four days to support their learning in the GCSE History modules about Weimar & Nazi Germany and the Cold War, as well as the A-level unit about Germany before and after World War Two. This trip to the historic and culturally significant capital of Germany will serve as an outstanding boost to their knowledge and understanding of Berlin and its role in 20th century history.

Wednesday 27 November 2024 Female Talent and Tech and Logistics @ Hitachi Earlier this month, Year 12’s and a Year 11 student attended a Female Talent and Tech and Logistics event at Hitachi office in Liverpool street London, where they were able to discover interesting roles, career opportunities and stories from female role models in the industry.The objective of the trip was to encourage and inspire women to pursue careers in logistics, transport and the electric vehicle (EV) sectors by highlighting opportunities, sharing success stories and providing networking opportunities.#LifeAtGumley #FutureReady

Monday 25 November 2024 Christmas Come Early! Christmas came early to Gumley this week when the English Department invited @theglobeplayers into school to perform, "A Christmas Carol" to Year 10 and Year 11.The students really enjoyed the performance and asked some excellent questions about casting decisions at the end. #LifeAtGumley

Friday 22 November 2024 The Anatomy of a Cell Year 7 have been busy making models of cells - and have been very creative!Students used sweets, polystyrene, clay, paper and even jelly to make the giant cells... some lucky students will be able to eat their models at the end of the project!It was part of an end of topic project to bring together all their learning and many went above and beyond by including A-Level knowledge into their models, we were very impressed.#LifeAtGumley

Wednesday 20 November 2024 The Power of Bread Year 10’s are learning about the functional and chemical properties of the ingredients used in bread making.Take a look at the results of their hard work, where they have created well shaped, risen and baked bread rolls which would not be out of place in a specialist bakery. The focaccia has been ingeniously and creatively decorated using a selection of colourful and eye catching vegetables... what delicious work!#GumleyGirls #LifeAtGumley

Thursday 14 November 2024 Life and Beyond This week, our Year 12 #GumleyGirls were invited to an enrichment day at @stcatherineschooltwickenham, "Life and Beyond" on the theme of women's empowerment.They had the chance to see five fantastic guest speakers who delivered thought-provoking talks, and overall it was a fabulous, empowering experience that, without doubt, will inspire our girls to keep chasing their own dreams in their future lives.#LifeAtGumley

Monday 11 November 2024 Discovering Regional China The Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition group this week were treated to an invigorating, educational and skill development session held given by Nicole and Phoenix, our Healthy Chinese Cooking Ambassadors, held at Gumley.They delved into the regional cooking in China and made a wonderful dish of Kung Pao chicken. They leant how to use a selection of Chinese cooking sauces that included Hoisin and oyster sauces alongside a chilli garlic sauce to give the dish a fiery tang. They skilfully boned a chicken thigh and also created garnishes using the delicate spring onion.A delicious, fragrant and appetising dish went down well and was enjoyed by the students and their families.

Thursday 31 October 2024 Year 7 Mass Before the end of term, we welcomedFr Arbogast to lead the Year 7 mass. This beautiful celebration was organised by the Chaplain and Liturgy Reps with the support of the music department and SLT.The Year 7 students received their school badge as part of the Mass and it was a wonderful way to mark their first half term at Gumley. #LifeAtGumley

Tuesday 8 October 2024 A Visit to the Gumley Convent This month, our Year 7 #GumleyGirls went to visit the FCJ Convent of the school and had a tour on the history of Gumley. Afterwards, students took part in prayer in the convent chapel, led by Sister Rita. #LifeAtGumley

Thursday 3 October 2024 Congratulations, Mrs Wilson! Our very own Mrs Wilson ran the London Marathon 2024 for Marie Curie, in memory of Mrs Thompson. Mrs Wilson was very proud to share that the total raised was a huge £6369.60, and we are very proud of her for this incredible achievement. Congratulations, and thank you to all.

Monday 30 September 2024 Cine Lumiere! Italian A Level students went to Cine Lumiere to watch the film I cento passi followed by a Q&A with Luisa Impastato, niece of Peppino, the activist killed by mafia in 1978 portrayed in the film. It was a very touching experience that made the story of Peppino very real!

Wednesday 25 September 2024 Summer Liturgies Back in July, the Chaplaincy Team delivered liturgies to all year groups to reflect on how to experience peace and renewal over the summer. We looked at how people in the Bible experienced peace and renewal & listened to the experience of staff and liturgy reps on this theme.

Thursday 12 September 2024 Sixth Form Induction The Sixth Form at Gumley House FCJ is unlike anything students will have experienced so far.To kickstart the new school year, students participated in an exciting Induction Day, filled with ice-breaker and teambuilding activities.
